Building Bridges Event

Ms. McClain with CMC Board Chair, Hayes Mizell.

May 8, 2008

Over 150 individuals gathered to pay homage to a true hero of peace and humility at the Community Mediation Center’s annual Building Bridges Celebration at the State Museum on May 8.  The seated dinner and silent auction helped raise over $10,000 for the Center’s operating budget.

This year, the Center presented the McKay Brabham Building Bridges Award to Ms. Barbara McClain.  This award recognizes individuals who transcend personal and institutional divisions in an effort to make significant contributions to the lives and work of all people in South Carolina.  Ms. McClain’s 50 years of work in the fields of mental health, racial desegregation, and public education earned her the 2008 award.

Past awards have been presented to:
2005: McKay Brabham
2006: Sarah Graydon McCrory
2007: Eben Taylor and Rhett Jackson
